FLOWERS FOR SHABBAT
The series, "Flowers for Shabbat" was created as a romantic gesture by Shootzi, who, beyond his accomplishments as an artist, also works as a welder. During an extended period of time, he creates every Friday “the gesture” - his interpretation of bringing flowers home to his beloved.
The flowers are created from scraps of material which have piled up in the workshop during the week of hard work. The remains of the material are collected and grow into a new work in the hands of the artist.
Beyond the purpose for which the flowers were prepared - as a romantic gesture of a welder, each flower actually represents a portrait of the past week. The hard material is refined by the new form given to it and enables the artist to commemorate the week that has just passed.
Every flower in the series is useless and impractical on its own. But on the other hand it is infinite and does not "surrender" to the laws of nature - and that is the source of its power.
